In my last post, I was telling you (quickly) my thoughts about hope, and about inaction. (being a weapon on mass destruction, ahem, do you remember ?) OK, so let's get into the heart of the subject right away. A group of friends and I have decided to make and sell art & craft pieces, and we have organized an event this week to sell items in our etsy shops, on our blogs, and 100% of the proceeds will go to Save the Children for their work with the littlest ones in the devastated areas of northeastern Japan.
A blog "Crafting for Courage" has been created (thanks Joanie !) and I will link to it soon. It will gather all the pieces for sale these days.
Margie handcarved the beautiful dragonfly stamp (in japanese culture the dragonfly symbolizes courage, strength and happiness), painted the rising sun with watercolors, and Joanie made the banners & logos for the blog. (and also found the name. You're a gem, Joanie) My friend Nanou will also sell handmade creations to her friends & family. Margie, Joanie, Lisa, Pat & Jill are part of the group efforts, and already other crafters have joined us & will be selling some pieces too.
I have already made four pincushions, and I'm currently making a wrist cuff. (textile bracelet) I really hope to make a couple more items too.
Now, of course if you can actually purchase something during the event, that would be awesome. But if you really can't, there is one thing that is free & that can help others, it is to spread the word, on your blog, on Twitter or Facebook ... you can use the logo below to link back to this post or to any of my friends' about the event. I will link to the Crafting for Courage blog as soon as it is ready to share.
Alone, I can't do much at all, but as a group, and with your help, we can actually help. Thank you for reading this post, and for spreading the word. And if you're interested in taking part just leave a comment or email to learn how to be added to the list of participants on the blog. Thanks !
